It's a Match

On March 17, 2023, Health Sciences Librarians joined in the Match Day celebrations at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and New Jersey Medical School. Every year, the third Friday of March is Match Day, when thousands of graduating medical students find out where they will be training for residency. This exciting day has such a huge impact on each medical student's future. Congratulations to our awesome students!

Alternative Resources from NLM

This month, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) retired two free resources: the Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders (WISER) and Drug Information Portal.

The NLM recommends the following free alternatives:

  • CHEMM (Chemical Hazards Emergency Medical Management): resources enabling first responders, healthcare providers, and planners to plan for, respond to, and recover from the effects of mass casualty incidents involving chemicals.

  • PubChem: the world's largest collection of freely accessible chemical information.

  • REMM (Radiation Emergency Medical Management): resources on planning for and responding to radiation mass casualty incidents, including clinical diagnosis and treatment of radiation injury during radiological and nuclear emergencies.

These resources can also be found on our extensive list of Health Sciences Databases.

Wikipedia Edit-a-thon Promotes Newark Medical History

Health Sciences librarians joined Rutgers–Newark Dana Library librarians, a Rutgers School of Nursing administrator, and Wikipedians from New York and Philadelphia in a second Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, an event where people gather to create and edit Wikipedia entries.

This event was co-hosted by Bob Vietrogoski, Head of Special Collections in the History of Medicine at Smith Library, and Diane Biunno, Metadata Archivist at Dana Library’s Institute of Jazz Studies. Edit-a-thon participants have created new articles about NJMS pediatrician and AIDS researcher Dr. James Oleske and Newark’s historically significant Black hospital Kenney Memorial Hospital, and edited articles about nursing in Newark. We plan to hold these events in the spring and fall, and welcome all who wish to join us!
