New Database Makes Decades of Opinion Polling Data Available

Rutgers University Libraries has just acquired access to Health Poll Database, a collection of public opinion data from health polls conducted in the United States from 1930 to the present. The database has polls from news organizations such as the New York Times and ABC, CBS, and NBC News, and organizations with health interests such as AARP, The Commonwealth Fund, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Topics covered include tuberculosis, polio, insurance, birth control, smoking, environmental health risks and pollution, cancer, HIV / AIDS, obesity, the Affordable Care Act, opioid abuse, Ebola, Zika, COVID-19, and more. Learn About the New NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy

NIH’s new Data Management & Sharing (DMS) Policy goes into effect January 25, 2023. NIH requires researchers to prospectively plan for how scientific data will be preserved and shared. Investigators are required to:

  • Submit a Data Management and Sharing plan outlining how scientific data and accompanying metadata will be managed and shared, including potential restrictions or limitations.

  • Comply with the Data Management and Sharing plan approved by the funding Institute or Center (IC).

On Thursday, February 16, from noon until 1:00 p.m., a joint presentation by Research and Sponsored Programs and Rutgers University Libraries will summarize the new policy and discuss resources to help faculty comply.

Smith Library Welcomes New Collections Librarian

Please join us in welcoming Maria Deptula, our new Health Sciences Libraries Collections Librarian. Maria will work collaboratively to assess and develop the collection resources that support the clinical, educational, and research missions of all the RBHS schools, centers, and institutes. She is based at the George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences on the RBHS campus in Newark.

Maria was most recently Director of Library Digital Services at Berkeley College. She has extensive experience developing programming and promoting library resources to students and faculty.  We’re excited to have her on our team!

The Free Book Exchange is Back

The Robert Wood Johnson Library’s Recreational Reading Book Exchange has reopened in the lobby of the Medical Education Building. This collection of fun reading material includes mysteries, science fiction, cookbooks, and even a few children’s books. The rules are simple: take a book or leave a book. No library card needed!
