POSTPONED: Current U.S. Immigration Policy and Practice:
Undermining Health and Human Rights

Join the Rutgers School of Public Health for its second Urban Public Health Conference: “Current U.S. Immigration Policy and Practice: Undermining Health and Human Rights,” with keynote speaker Thomas Saenz, President and General Counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF).

In its 50 years of civil rights litigation, policy advocacy, and leadership, MALDEF has spearheaded the most important protections of our time including challenging unlawful detention and raids, fighting to protect the right of day laborers to seek work, and defending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (commonly known as DACA), initiative that offers temporary relief to young immigrants brought to this country as children.

Following Saenz’s keynote, we will have panel examining the public health effects of recent actions against immigrants and will discuss New Jersey policy and practice including sanctuary cities protections currently in place which are now being challenged by the Trump Administration.  The conference will include a dynamic mix of participants including elected officials, leaders and professionals from non-profit organizations, researchers and academics, and community members.
