PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Former Rutgers football players
Clark Harris (Cincinnati) and
Sebastian Joseph-Day (Los Angeles Rams) will compete for their respective teams in Super Bowl LVI, set for Sunday at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. It marks the second Super Bowl appearance for Joseph-Day, while Harris will play in the first Super Bowl of his professional career.
With Harris and Joseph-Day set to appear in Super Bowl LVI, 23 former Rutgers football standouts will now have combined for 34 appearances in the big game. Fifteen Scarlet Knights have combined for 22 Super Bowl rings.
Harris served as the primary long snapper for the Bengals in their come-from-behind 27-24 overtime victory against Kansas City in the AFC title game. Inactive due to injury since Week 8 of the regular season, Joseph-Day is in line to return to the lineup for Sunday's championship game, according to Rams' head coach Sean McVay. Prior to his injury, Joseph-Day tallied 38 tackles and a career-high three sacks in seven games, all starts.
The longest-tenured Rutgers football player in the NFL, Harris is in his 14th professional season and his 13th with Cincinnati. The 2017 Pro Bowl selection was a three-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection during his Rutgers career and amassed over 2,000 receiving yards along with 143 receptions and 11 touchdowns as a Scarlet Knight. He ranks in the top 10 in school history for both career receptions and receiving yards. Harris once caught a pass in 38 straight contests and produced five career games with at least 100 receiving yards under head coach
Greg Schiano.
Now in his fourth NFL season, Joseph-Day finished his Rutgers career playing in 49 consecutive games and 50 overall. The defensive lineman totaled 41 tackles as a senior with a career-high seven in the win over Maryland. He also had 4.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks, one pass batted down, and one forced fumble, one blocked field goal. During his career, Joseph-Day totaled 97 tackles during his career "On the Banks" along with 14.5 tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two passes batted down and two forced fumbles.
