NEWARK, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball head coach C. Vivian Stringer and former Rutgers Athletic Director Bob Mulcahy will be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame on Sunday at 7 p.m. as part of the Class of 2019-20.
 
The 12th annual induction ceremony will be a 1-hour virtual pre-recorded event, and will be broadcast on several television, radio and prominent social media platforms throughout New Jersey. Other inductees in the 2019-20 class include Eli Manning, Rick Barry, Ed Harris and Anne Hathaway.
 
"These Garden State heroes perfectly represent what makes our state great," said Jon F. Hanson, chairman of the NJHOF. "It's our privilege to honor Coach Stringer and Mr. Mulcahy for their outstanding contributions to our state."
 
Stringer and Mulcahy will join a prestigious list of the Garden State's best and brightest in the New Jersey Hall of Fame, including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Yogi Berra and Buzz Aldrin.
 
Stringer continues to be a pioneer, visionary and leader approaching her fifth decade of success on the hardwood, a legacy cemented in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 alongside fellow greats Michael Jordan, David Robinson, John Stockton and Jerry Sloan. Stringer made history in 2018 as she eclipsed the monumental 1,000 career victory milestone, one of five NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches to reach the elite plateau. With 49 seasons on the sidelines, Stringer became the first coach in NCAA basketball history to take three different schools to the Final Four, including Rutgers' two trips in 2000 and 2007. The Edenborn, Pa. native has compiled an overall record of 1041-421, which ranks fifth all-time among NCAA women's basketball coaching victories.
 
Mulcahy is a pioneer in New Jersey athletics and a Class of 2017 Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame inductee.  He served as Director of Athletics at Rutgers from 1998 to 2009 and was instrumental in building the football program toward national prominence. Coming off a winless season the year before his arrival, he worked steadfastly to improve conditions for the program. In 2005, his efforts were realized when the Scarlet Knights made their first postseason appearance in nearly 30 years. Mulcahy also obtained funding from the state legislature for a massive renovation of the university's athletic facilities, raised the athletics department's endowment and secured increased television coverage for the football program. Mulcahy positively affected student-athlete welfare, putting an emphasis on academics and community service. He initiated significant upgrades in athlete tutoring and supervision programs, boosting Rutgers to one of the top academic departments in the nation. Prior to joining Rutgers, Mulcahy served as president and CEO of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) for 19 years.
 
The New Jersey Hall of Fame recently executed a 45-year lease for 15,000 square feet for a physical Hall of Fame at the American Dream complex in East Rutherford. Construction will begin this fall and a ribbon cutting celebration is scheduled for December 2021. Stringer and Mulcahy's stories and careers will be showcased alongside other Jersey legends on display at a venue hosting more than 40 million people patrons each year.
 
The New Jersey Hall of Fame has also recently formed a partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and created a Michael Graves designed poster exhibit and state-of-the-art holograms at Terminals A & B at Newark International Airport.
