On July 23, NBC Sports Philadelphia will welcome home Taryn Hatcher, a Delran, N.J. native and graduate of Rutgers University who will join our family as a multi-platform host and reporter. Taryn has spent the last three years as sports anchor at Hawaii News Now, and while that may sound like a dream of its own, her real dream since childhood has been to cover the Flyers, Eagles, Phillies and Sixers.

In her new role at NBC Sports Philadelphia, Hatcher will serve as a host and reporter primarily on NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com, and also serve in the same capacity on–air, including filling in on SportsNet Central as needed.

Get to know Taryn with a quick Q&A about her career and her favorite things about Philadelphia.

1. Favorite Philadelphia sports memory?

I’d have to say going to Flyers games with my dad, mom and brother -- back in the Eric Lindros and John LeClair days at the Spectrum and then later the Center. We would go all the time and those are really my first sports memories. My brother eventually got into the Naval Academy and since then we’ve gone to every Army-Navy Game at the Linc which, as far as my favorite football memory is just the best.

2. Heroes in the media business?

Rachel Nichols has become such an idol to me. She’s super versatile and well-rounded. Kathryn Tappen, a Rutgers grad and she’s pretty phenomenal too.

3. Favorite Philly food?

As somebody who used to be a waitress at Chickie’s and Petes, I definitely have a soft spot for Crabfries. I was in Bordentown and would fill in at Philly every once in a while but when I was at Rutgers back in 2013, 2014. I actually stopped working there only about a week before I moved out to Hawaii. Aside from that -- soft pretzels, the old Pennsauken Mart in South Jersey. They had the best soft pretzels in my opinion, but honestly I haven’t had a soft pretzel since I left for Hawaii three years ago, so it could be from anywhere and I’ll be happy.

4. What was it like watching the Birds win the Super Bowl?

It was amazing and unbelievable. It was a little bit bittersweet because I was in Hawaii and I’m seeing all my friends post about the parade and the game. Especially because it’s the Patriots and it’s this dynasty, this goliath of a team, to have the Eagles watch them beat them to win their first Super Bowl after having watched them lose to New England in the Super Bowl growing up, it was just awesome.

5. What sports did you play going up?

I became a soccer player because Carli Lloyd was from my hometown and was at Rutgers becoming an All-Star and it really made me want to move into soccer more. I played center-midfield and center-defender at Delran High School but unfortunately blew my knee out and couldn’t play in college.

6. Favorite Philadelphia concert memory?

My favorite had to be the Backstreet Boys “Millennium” tour at the Center. To this day, still my favorite concert.
