6:30-8:00pm
Arup, 77 Water Street, NY, NY 10005
This discussion will focus on the policy, implementation, enforcement, and advocacy behind the Vision Zero Initiative. The Vision Zero Initiative supports New York’s public in an effort to end all traffic-related fatalities. After identifying the successes the policy had in the movement's birthplace of Sweden, New York City and Mayor De Blasio adopted this initiative in 2014 with the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan, a 63-step approach, to end all traffic fatalities in New York City by 2024. This initiative not only includes designing safer streets and intersections, but also includes increasing penalties for unsafe driving, increasing education efforts, and expanding outreach and communications to the public. In order for this initiative to be successful, it will take continued collaboration between government entities, organizations, policy makers, and the general public.
